Prescriptions

Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

The NHS App

Order repeat prescriptions via the NHS App or NHS website, and have them sent to a pharmacy of your choice.

Learn more about the NHS App

The NHS App has limitations when it comes to making requests for items that you do not need every time.

If you’re looking to request an item like this, try the other options below.

Online Form

Order your repeat prescription via our online Repeat Prescription form.

You don’t need an account to use our online form.

Order a repeat prescription

By Telephone

You can order a repeat prescription by calling 01278 454560 during opening times.

You may also order a repeat prescription for someone else.

Please ensure you have your prescription details ready before calling.

In Person

You can order in person by returning the right-hand half of a previous prescription, or you can submit a handwritten request.

You must include your name, date of birth and requested medication.

Please place your request in the prescription box next to our Information Desk.

Collecting your prescription

However you choose to request your medication, please allow a minimum of three working days for your prescription to be processed by the surgery.

Many local pharmacies offer a repeat prescription collection service, but please note that this may take longer than three working days. This is because some requests are not passed to us immediately by the pharmacy. All prescription requests, including those submitted via this website, are processed strictly in the order they are received.

If you request an item that:

  • You haven’t had for some time, or

  • Is not listed as a repeat prescription,

your request may take longer. A doctor will need to review it and may need to speak with you before it can be issued.

Some medications—particularly those started in hospital—require regular blood tests or other monitoring to ensure they are prescribed safely. Your doctor may be unable to issue further prescriptions if these tests are not up to date.

Choosing a pharmacy

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescriptions from. This is called nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time.

Medication reviews

All electronic-generated prescriptions include a review date. This means your doctor will want to speak with you before continuing the medication, to ensure it is still appropriate and safe. Regular reviews also help to reduce medication waste.

If you are on a repeat prescription, we may ask you to attend the surgery for a review. We will contact you when a review is due.
