Pharmacy & Self-Care

Pharmacists are qualified healthcare professionals who can offer clinical advice, over the counter medicines and their use, to effectively and safely manage a range of minor health concerns. They can also help you to decide whether you'll need to see a doctor. You don't need an appointment and you won't even be asked to make a purchase. Every pharmacy also has a private consultation area for you to talk about your symptoms in private if you prefer.

GP Appointments

What is Total Triage?

As of January 2025, any patient requesting to see a GP will be reviewed by a member of our clinical team. This new system is often referred to as 'total triage'.

Receptionists will no longer be able to book GP appointments for you directly, but they can help you complete our short form to request an appointment. It is very important that your contact details are up to date in your medical record. If you change your address or phone number, please let us know.

To avoid waiting in a telephone queue, you can complete the GP appointment request form online or via the NHS App. You can also set up your own NHS App profile to manage those of your children or someone you care for (if applicable).

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

We have a variety of appointments available both here at the surgery as well as through our extended access service.

Extended access GP appointments are offered outside of a practice's core contracted hours, specifically during evenings and weekends. These appointments are designed to provide greater flexibility for patients who may find it difficult to attend appointments during regular daytime hours.

What is a Musculoskeletal Specialist?

A First Contact Practitioner (FCP) are the first point of contact for patients who have musculoskeletal issues, such as joint pain, back problems, or sports injuries. They assess, diagnose, and manage these conditions without the patient needing to see a GP first.

An FCP can help with:

  • Referring patients to specialists, such as orthopedic surgeons, if necessary.

Home Visits

Home visits are for those patients who are housebound or undergoing end-of-life care and therefore cannot get to the practice. In the time taken for the doctor to do one home visit, they could see 5 to 6 patients at the surgery. For this reason it is in the doctor’s and the patient’s best interests that, whenever possible, an effort is made to get down to the surgery.

Please ensure you give the receptionist your name, address and phone number. It is very important to inform the receptionist if you are not staying at your home.

The doctor may call you first to discuss your request for a home visit, and will then decide on the most appropriate next steps.

Missed appointments and DNA’s

Every year, missed appointments cost the NHS around £162 million. This leads to serious delays in treatment for other patients who need care.

At our practice, an average of 115 patients each month do not attend (DNA) their appointment without letting us know. That’s around 26 hours of wasted clinical time every month.

If you are unable to attend, or think you might be late, please let us know as soon as possible.

We can then offer your appointment to someone else who needs it.
