Life Threatening
If you or someone you know has a life-threatening condition, such as loss of consciousness, chest pain, breathing difficulties etc, you should call 999 or Go to A&E.
When to Call 999
- Suspected Heart Attack: Chest pain, pressure, heaviness, tightness, or squeezing across the chest.
- Suspected Stroke: Sudden confusion, difficulty speaking, weakness on one side of the body.
- Severe Difficulty Breathing: Choking, gasping for air, or difficulty getting words out.
- Loss of Consciousness: Blacking out or becoming unresponsive.
- Severe Bleeding: Heavy bleeding that won't stop.
- Severe Allergic Reaction: Rapid swelling, difficulty breathing, or other signs of anaphylaxis.
- Severe Burns or Scalds
- Major Trauma: Road traffic accidents, stabbings, shootings, falls from a height, or serious head injuries
- Fits that aren't stopping
When to Go to A&E (Emergency Department)
- If you or someone else is experiencing any of the life-threatening symptoms listed above.
- If you are unsure about the severity of the situation and need immediate medical attention.
Urgent but Not Life Threatening
If you or someone you know has an urgent condition, such as break or sprain, cuts or grazes, fever or rashes
Visit an Urgent Care Centre (UTC) if:
- You have an urgent medical issue requiring on the day attention

BCH is open 7 days a week from 8am to 9pm. The last patient is admitted at 8:30pm but there may be times when the UTC needs to close early.
